"Sea Glass I: Serenity" cuff bracelet

$280.00

“Sea Glass I: Serenity” is a one-of-a-kind creation, and a meditation on the deep feeling of calm evoked by the vastness of the ocean. The beading happened organically. I had no plan, no template, no design; only a vision of the sea and a sense of the feeling I wanted to capture.

For a focal piece, I chose a piece of hazed white sea glass collected from the beach in Barbados. I gathered beads that matched the glass and the sense I wanted to evoke: faceted opalite and amazonite, genuine pearls, bugle beads, and seed beads in shades of pale blue, turquoise, gray, silver, and navy. Instead of a traditional bezel, I found myself creating a silver net to hold the glass. I didn’t draw patterns to follow, but let the beads speak in swirls and eddies like waves and ocean currents.

“Serenity” is a 6” cuff bracelet backed with aqua deerskin leather. It has an inner diameter of 5.5 cm across, and an opening gap of nearly 3 cm. The beadwork is mounted on an aluminum bracelet blank, making it both lightweight and strong. There is some give to the cuff’s C-shape curve, but this bracelet is not meant to be widened or tightened frequently to avoid damage.
