Beaded Monarch butterfly pin
$110.00
This stunning beaded Monarch butterfly pin is sure to become an instant favourite! A true statement piece, meticulously hand embroidered using only high-quality materials.
This beadwork butterfly is:
- My original design!
- Entirely hand stitched using extra-tiny (15/0) seed beads
- Edged with black seed beads (11/0)
- Mounted on a locking pin back to keep the pin secure when worn
- Stabilized with a custom 3D printed core, so the beadwork will never bend, twist, or wrinkle
- Backed with buttery-soft black deerskin leather
Measurements:
Width: approx. 8 cm (3 inches) from wingtip to wingtip
Height: approx. 3.5 cm (1 3/8 inches)
This pin has been entirely hand stitched with craft and precision. I’ve used a range of different bead colours and finishes to give this monarch butterfly brooch realistic detail, depth, and dimension. The beads shimmer and shine in the light.
The pin is backed by recycled 100% Canadian deerskin leather. This buttery-smooth leather provides the piece with strength and durability, as well as providing a beautiful finish. The leather used for this pin is black.
This is my original design. Please respect my work: do not copy or recreate this pattern. Thank you! <3
More Info About My Materials:
Beads
When making beadwork, bead quality has a significant impact on the look, feel, and longevity of the piece. For my bead embroidery, I use primarily Miyuki and Toho brands of beads, both known for their evenly sized seed beads, rub-resistant finishes, and wide range of beautiful colours.
For my larger beads, I source a range of high-quality glass, crystal, and semi-precious gemstone beads, and only use those that are evenly shaped without chips or cracks. Low quality beads will never see their way into my work!
Deerskin Leather
My bead embroidery pieces are backed with 100% Canadian deerskin leather. Leather is used in bead embroidery for a few reasons: to hide and protect the back of the stitches; to give structure for the edging beads; and to provide strength and longevity for the piece as a whole. Deerskin leather is a great choice for smaller beaded pieces, as it’s buttery soft, thin enough to stitch through easily, and wears well against the skin.
All of my leather is purchased as scrap from a local leather goods designer. What’s too small a piece of leather for a bag or pair of gloves is the perfect size for a pair of beaded earrings or a pendant! Using these offcut pieces helps ensure that I use only top quality hide in all my work while helping to reduce waste. If you're looking for a vegan leather alternative, please contact me about a custom order using UltraSuede.
